WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED FOR JOGGING?

A pair of trainers might suffice. But a little additional equipment may make you feel more comfortable. For example, some technical clothing will help to wick perspiration away from the body more effectively than cotton. And that comes in very useful, you'll see!

It's entirely possible to brave the outdoor weather conditions - all you need to do is don a wind jacket. If it's raining, a jacket that's both water repellent and breathable will be a comfort to you, encouraging you to go ahead and step outside.

Manage the cold with some long running tights lined with fleece, for example.

For us women, a sports bra is an essential accessory, given the support it provides, and it's best to get a seamless model if you want to reduce chafing.

Let's not forget the most important thing: your running shoes ! Make sure your feet are as comfortable as possible; for this, you need cushioning and support.

You will not even feel that you are wearing footwear specially designed for running!

In short, a pair that is designed for your weight and frequency of use, and that is to be tried on at the end of the day (the foot swells during exercise).

TYPES OF RUNNING TERRAINS

It's up to you to choose between jogging on roads, in forests, on footpaths, on soft sand or a country trail, indeed, wherever your legs take you... The adventure of jogging can be experienced anywhere as long as you have the right gear.

The variation in terrain stimulates the proprioception of your ankles. This exercise involves working to maintain balance in order to avoid getting a nasty sprain.

The difference with trail running is the level of difficulty of the paths, where the elevation gains, ascents and descents in an exclusively natural environment will also be important considerations.

Some locations will pose their own problems, such as jogging in cities: you will be exposed to the worst aspects of vehicle pollution.

Running in the countryside is strongly recommended as it will increase the sense of freedom.

 THE RULES OF JOGGING

Need simplicity? This sport is perfect for you.

To be honest, there are really no rules!

The main job of your legs is to get you to move forwards, while maintaining your stability and safety.

A few crucial points to make sure you jog the right way:

- stay safe when jogging in town: this is a good time to apply the Highway Code!

- respect the nature that surrounds you, taking care of it is important to the planet

- make sure you're properly equipped for your workouts (taking into account pollution, temperature, visibility of you go out at night)

Listening to your body should be your top priority, you have to know when to rest so you can keep your performance at optimum level.

THE MAIN BENEFIT OF JOGGING

I've always been told that jogging is boring… but that's rubbish!

You will learn that the main benefit is the ability of jogging to clear the mind and give you the breath of fresh air that you so often need.

Stress, a word that can have its effect, simply by writing it down. It'll simply melt into thin air thanks to the endorphins produced when jogging.

Just vary your routes, jogging times, running partners and playlists to avoid the repetition that was previously a cause for concern.

The sense of well-being you get after jogging is a joy that boosts your energy for the rest of your activities.

This moment is for you (or to be shared with whoever you want) and may be done to excess, unlike other more harmful pleasures!

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE IS JOGGING SUITABLE FOR?

This activity is for any sportsman or woman or any person seeking to become more active. All you need is the desire to get active, clear the mind and a boost of motivation and you're ready to go! Although at first it may be difficult, do not let yourself get into the mindset that this sport is not for you. Your body must adapt, and in order to do this, remember to walk for a few minutes occasionally during your first outings to allow your muscles to catch up little by little.

It's absolutely fine to walk during your jogging outings when you start out, or when you're getting back into jogging after an injury for example – so ignore what people say and follow our advice.

You should nevertheless be attentive to any contraindications associated with your heart or your breathing.

Feeling any pain in your joints? It would be advisable to have a medical check-up before tackling any old path.

Jogging is great, but it shouldn't be your only activity… Doing an additional sport is good for your body, as it'll exercise different muscle groups.

I can already hear you say “yes, but which sport?” There are several options available: road cycling, swimming, yoga, weights training...

Cast your running shoes aside on that day and have fun doing a different sport.

IF YOU FEEL ANY CONCERNS ABOUT YOUR OVERALL STATE OF HEALTH, DON'T TAKE ANY RISKS.

A MEDICAL CONSULTATION WILL GIVE YOU THE REASSURANCE YOU NEED AND SOME GOOD REASONS FOR YOUR JOGGING OUTING!
