TOP 8 REASONS FOR RUNNING IN AUTUMN

Running in autumn? What would you say to being faced with the first signs of cold weather, despondently striding out into the gloom, with slippery leaves littered all over the ground. But what if autumn was also, and especially, about making the most of enjoying running in a colourful season that ultimately is rather pleasant?

1. AUTUMN IS THE INDIAN SUMMER

Sometimes autumn can mean mild temperatures, clear skies and soft and warm sunlight. Be tempted to slip on your running shoes, go out into soft sunshine and make the most of the last milder spells of the year.

2. PREVENT SEASONAL DEPRESSION

We'll never repeat this enough: running is good for your physical health as well as your mental health. Jogging is also a moment where you allow yourself to clear your mind, an antidote to feeling gloomy. Focusing on the exertion lets you clear your mind and relax. Give it a try because it's been proven! And you won't live in dread of the coming winter…

3. GET EQUIPPED FOR A NEW RUNNING SEASON

What better excuse than a change in season to offer yourself a new running outfit? OK, but what do your need to go running in autumn? Think about the base layer that protects you from the cold without making you hot, or yet still a sleeveless running gilet with handy pockets for keys and smartphone. It's also worth getting a neck warmer to keep colds away and running tights to keep your legs warm.

4. STRIDING OUT OVER THE LEAVES AND TAKING IN THE SCENERY

And isn't autumn a rather lovely season after all? Make the most of your runs to admire the abundant array of colours, the variety of leaves at your feet, and the reflection on the trees. These running outings are seriously enjoyable!

5. MAKE THE MOST OF THE EARLY EVENING SUNSHINE

The countdown is started before having to out on running with a headlamp at night. The days will soon be too short to be able to go on a run after work whilst it's still daylight. Now is the time to make the most of it.

6. COMBINE A WORKOUT WITH PLEASURE BY PICKING UP CHESTNUTS

It might be your episode of the Madeleine: going to pick up chestnuts in the forest to eat them in the evening in your sofa. And what if you did it whilst running? On top of the fun of going on a treasure hunt and preparing the evening meal, it will allow you to vary your pace and break up the monotony of running.

7. FORGET ALL ABOUT SUMMER HEAT

As opposed to summer, running in autumn has the benefit of not having to suffer in the heat. Remember those runs in 25°C, when the least bit of effort made you sweat a litre of water. In Autumn, the temperature is more often than not ideal for running!

8. PRE-EMPT END OF YEAR HOLIDAY EXCESSES

Yes, a flawless figure needs to be prepared well in advance. To mitigate the coming end of year excesses, get your body into shape as of now: take care of it, limit excesses, go for a run! You'll be thankful come December.
