Testers award of the European Big Test Shoes
This year, Kalenji Trail shoes were again among Endurance Trail's favourites at the 2016 European Big Test Shoes.
The testers spent a week on Madeira comparing the best brands of running shoes on the market, divided into 4 categories: 'Road & Trail', 'All Tracks/Ultra', 'Mountain Trail' and 'Racing'. Men's and women's models were ranked separately.
After a blind static test and dynamic test (on the same route for each model in any given category), the testers chose their favourites. Men's and women's Kiprun Trail XT6 were chosen in the 'All Tracks/Ultra' category, while men's Kiprace Trail 3 were also selected as a favourite in the 'Racing' category'.
According to Endurance Trails, men's Kiprun Trail XT6 provide: 'Impeccable grip and cushioning', women's Kiprun Trail XT6 shoes are:'By far best value for money in this selection' (All Tracks/Ultra*), and men's Kiprace Trail 3 are:'Indisputably the best shoes in this category' (Racing*).
*All Tracks/Ultra: All types of terrain: rolling, with elevation changes, medium and long distance. Focus on shoes' comfort, cushioning and grip.
*Racing:For trail runners looking for high-performance. Focus on shoes' low weight, balance and propulsion.

Grippy and well cushioned Would like a bit more protection from rocks on top
These were recommended to me by a friend who absolutely loves them (he has ran 100mile ultras in them no problems). My expensive brand other trail shoes just kept splitting after as little as a month (I can get 2.5 pairs of these for the cost!).
Comfort is excellent, I happily ran very technical V3K in them (15hrs on feet). Ideally I'd like a bit more top of toe protection for the rocks that bounce on top of your foot, but it's a small gripe on an otherwise brilliant shoe.
One excellent touch is the lace pocket which a lot of the expensive brands don't have. They do feel quite light too.
So far they're holding up to the elements very well... 200 miles or so and no tears etc. They've been in mud, the sea over mountain adventures.
Planning on sticking with these for the forseeable.
Good grip, comfortable & light weight Nothing so far
The first pair of Kalenji running shoes I've tried and I'm impressed! I've used them 3-4 times on the trail over 8-12km in the wet and the dry. I'm a slight pronator so was initially concerned that the neutral/pronator stance would not give enough support for me, but this is not the case.
The shoes feel supportive enough for off road, but you still feel in contact with the ground which I like. They offer plenty of grip in the wet and loose gravel and are not too slippy in the tarmac either. They are also really light weight.
Lace tension was looser than usual for me but once adjusted property felt very comfortable.
I might try a pair of Kalenji road shoes as well when my Brooks Adrenalin's wear out. With a 2 yr guarantee and 365 day returns I think they're worth a try!
